SITUATION – FRUSTRATION!

The catering crew at Ralph Allen School in Bath were serving up hot drinks, over the counter using an old machine that was constantly breaking down. It was “out of order” so often, that they had to resorted to making drinks by hand. They were so frustrated seeing the queues for hot drinks grow, and knowing they were letting the students down, and not realising the revenue that was readily available to them.

REASSURANCE REQUIRED

Investing in a new beverage machine could be expensive and would need to deliver school-compliant drinks – but would they live up to the student’s expectations? What if the drinks weren’t popular enough to sell the volume needed to make the investment worthwhile, or cover any rental costs? Additionally, there was a real concern that they could under-specify a machine and be left with one that wouldn’t meet the demands of busy break times and dinner hours. EXAM DAY

The Lavazza Skinny Options machine was put in place ahead of the morning break, set to FREE vend low calorie hot chocolate and toffee hot chocolate alongside skinny latte, mocha and cappuccino Lavazza coffees. As expected, mention of “FREE DRINKS” caused quite a stir! Students and members of the teaching and support staff descended on the canteen and put the machine through its paces.

At the end of a very busy day, the catering team were beaming. They loved the fact that the machine was compact and didn’t take up much space, but small proved to be mighty as it quickly dispensed perfect drinks, time-after-time, at the touch of a button. They were so impressed, that they decided to keep the machine on site. It was configured to accept a bespoke, prepaid card payment system and went straight into action, leaving the catering staff to focus on food provision and leave the machine to serve up the hot drinks.
